Downdetector for SignalGuard Cellular Monitoring

Connect Downdetector to SignalGuard to escalate cellular signal severity when carrier outages are reported near your venue. Real-time carrier health for ops.

Connect your Downdetector partner API key to SignalGuard to escalate the cellular signal when crowd-sourced outage reports spike near your venue, before connectivity becomes a ticketing, ingress, or comms problem.

What Downdetector adds to SignalGuard

Downdetector enriches the cellular signal inside SignalGuard's Movement pillar. Cellular sits in Movement because degraded connectivity changes how a venue functions — ticket scanning slows, comms degrade, ride-share pickups fragment, and crowd flow stalls at choke points. Downdetector's value is that it surfaces outages as crowd-sourced user reports, often minutes before carrier-side acknowledgements.

When SignalGuard sees a Downdetector spike for AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon within the venue's metro area, it raises the cellular signal severity automatically, which then re-weights the venue score across the 50+-signal model. Operators see the escalation in the same dashboard as weather, traffic, and chatter — no separate tool.

The feed is partner-licensed; SignalGuard does not include Downdetector in the default path. BYOK is the only way to enable it.

How the integration works

Paste your Downdetector partner API key into the Downdetector tile at /integrations. SignalGuard does a length and format check at submission time (the API has no public probe endpoint) and stores the key AES-256-GCM encrypted at rest. Real auth errors surface on first signal-time use.

Common use cases

  • Major-venue ingress monitoring when ticket scanning depends on cellular
  • Connectivity-aware comms planning for crowd-management teams
  • Pre-event sanity checks on local carrier health
  • Festival site connectivity risk assessment across multi-day windows
  • Detecting carrier-side incidents that affect ride-share and rideshare pickup
  • Correlating cellular degradation with crowd-flow anomalies

What you need

A Downdetector partner contract. The API is not self-serve — contracts are typically $500-2K/mo through Cisco/Ookla. Start at downdetector.com/api/ to begin a partner conversation.

FAQ

Do I need a Downdetector subscription? Yes — the Downdetector enrichment is only available via your own partner key. Without it, SignalGuard's cellular signal still works but won't reflect outage reports.

Where do I add my key? In your SignalGuard workspace at /integrations. Open the Downdetector tile and paste your key.

Is my key secure? Yes. Keys are AES-256-GCM encrypted at rest, kept in server memory only for the duration of a request, and never written to logs or sent to the browser.

Frequently asked

The questions ops leads ask before swapping a vendor key into SignalGuard.

What does Downdetector add to SignalGuard?
Downdetector adds crowdsourced carrier-outage reports to the Cellular signal. A spike in 'Verizon down' or 'AT&T outage' reports geographically near your venue escalates the signal to MEDIUM or HIGH so the comms lead knows attendee 911 and payments may be impaired.
How do I get a Downdetector API key?
Downdetector's API is partner-only via Cisco / Ookla. Contact downdetector.com/api/ for a contract. Pricing typically runs $500-2K/month. Once you have a key, paste it on /integrations.
Is the validation real-time?
SignalGuard does soft validation on key format at connect time (no public test endpoint). Real authentication errors surface on first signal-time use. The Cellular signal falls back to FCC NORS public data if the Downdetector key fails.
How does this pair with FCC NORS data?
FCC NORS is the official authoritative outage source but lags 4-24 hours. Downdetector is crowdsourced and near-real-time but noisier. SignalGuard's classifier weighs both — confirmed NORS outage escalates faster, but Downdetector volume spike alone surfaces a LOW alert.
